Trails and Open Spaces

Low Impact Connections to Nature

Designing trails focuses on a natural setting and introducing people into that environment to enjoy and experience a connection with nature. Minimizing the impact of human touch on the land is vital with sustainable and resilient design considerations such as how the trail affects water flow. Design of trails and open space incorporates sensitivities to wildlife and indigenous plants. Design also considers land contours, slope, vistas, accessibility, interpretive opportunities, construction techniques, materials, safety, tread, trail paving and surfacing along with fixtures like trailhead signs and facilities.
