Visual Simulations Help Paint The Picture

Choosing Solar In Support Of Green Initiatives

Our before-and-after simulation helps visualize what the solar farm will look like.

A few weeks after Pitkin County declared a state of climate emergency, a proposed solar farm in the Aspen valley was met with both support and opposition. Situated in some of the most cherished land in the state, key decision makers and the community needed to have a clear idea of what was being proposed. They needed to see the level of visual impact the 35-acre facility and its 18,000 solar panels would have. We worked with Renewable Energy Systems (RES) to create visual simulations showing what the solar facility would look like.

A supported message

The approval process included community meetings, Planning & Zoning Commission approval, and a vote by County Commissioners. After seeing the simulations the Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved the project. The Commissioners all agreed this project supports their resiliency goals and sends a similar message to all who visit Aspen.

When site access was difficult we used Google Earth imagery for the simulations.
