Castle Pines, Colorado

Family Recreation

Set in the heart of suburban Castle Pines North, Elk Ridge Park offers the kind of community park that Coloradoans cherish: family recreation. The park is 11 acres and provides something for every generation, from the synthetic turf field to the hidden natural valleys.

A mesa top with a bridged causeway separates an extensive playground area from the surrounding natural and wild beauty. Looped trails with signs lead to educational nodes and play events; climbing walls surround the playground. The environment includes cultural art, natural vistas, picnic shelters, nature play opportunities, and a water play area with a hidden waterfall. Multi-generational play is the goal of this community park design, helping whole families relax and enjoy the outdoors together.

Scavenger Hunt that Brings Wayfinding to Life

Wayfinding design and creative ways for ongoing interaction was a major consideration during design as it was desired to be an attraction for the park. Throughout the park there are interpretive wayfinding signs that lead visitors on a Colorado-themed scavenger hunt. Riddles, symbols, and rhymes lead from one clue to another and reveal Colorado history. Come try it for yourself and see if you can complete the course.
